Women's Soccer Earns Fifth Seed, First-Round Date at Becker
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College has earned the fifth seed for the 2015 New England Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Championship and will play a first round game at fourth-seeded Becker College on Tuesday, November 3.
The Mariners finished the regular season with a conference record of 3-4-2, winning a pair of games in the final week to clinch their first postseason berth since 2012. Senior Alexandra Mahar leads the team in scoring with nine goals and five assists for 23 points.
Lesley University finished the NECC regular season with an unblemished 9-0 record to claim the top seed in the tournament. The Lynx will receive a bye to the semifinals on Thursday, November 5. The title game will be held on November 7 at the highest remaining seed.
Lesley was led by goalkeeper Lilly Donovan who topped the conference with a save percentage of .909 and a goals against average of just .21. The Lynx also received production from rookie Jordan Mitchell, who finished the regular season with nine goals and 10 assists.
All first round games will be played on Tuesday. Second seed Elms College plays host to Regis College at 6:00 p.m. The Blazers earned the second spot after an impressive 8-1 NECC record, with their lone loss coming at the hands of Lesley. Southern Vermont College earned the third seed and will host Newbury College at 2:00 p.m. The Mountaineers look to capitalize in the postseason on the heels of their best NECC finish to date.
Becker finished in fourth place with a conference record of 6-3. Alison Mosdale led the NECC in all offensive categories this fall with 17 goals and 11 assists for 45 points.
