Lent Repeats as GNAC Libero of the Week
WINTHROP, Mass. – For the second consecutive week, Mitchell College junior Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Libero of the Week for the sport of women's volleyball, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Lent racked up 64 defensive digs across three non-conference matches for the Mariners, averaging a whopping 7.11 digs per set over the nine sets she played. She added eight assists and four service aces, helping guide the Mariners to a 2-1 record on the week. The junior began the week by tallying 18 digs (6.00 digs per set) in a loss to Rhode Island College, before accumulating 46 total digs in a Saturday tri-match with Mass. Maritime and Anna Maria. Lent posted 17 digs (5.67 digs per set) against the Buccaneers in opener of the tri-match, before erupting for season-high 29 digs at 9.67 digs per set in straight set victory over the AMCATS. The junior enters the new week leading the GNAC with 5.88 digs per set and is second in total digs (94).
Additionally, for the second straight week, Genna Hyde (Cypress, TX) landed on the the Weekly Honor Roll. The freshman continued the strong start to her collegiate career, racking up 41 kills and 29 digs across three non-conference matches on the week. She added three service aces and two assists, while averaging 4.56 kills per set and 3.22 digs per set in nine sets. Hyde began the week by tallying 11 kills and seven digs in a loss to Rhode Island College, then stepped up her game with a 14-kill 10-dig double-double against Mass. Maritime, before finishing with 16 kills and 12 digs in straight set victory over Anna Maria. She produced a hitting percentage of .289 against the AMCATS, while averaging 5.33 kills per set and 4.00 digs per set in the match.
The Mariners (3-2, 0-0 GNAC) will return to action on Thursday, September 12, when they face Framingham State on the road.
