Volleyball Duo Earn Weekly GNAC Honors
WINTHROP, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College women's volleyball team earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors, as sophomore Genna Hyde (Cypress, Texas) was named Player of the Week and senior Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) was tabbed Libero of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
It marks the first Player of the Week honor of Hyde's career and the sixth time Lent has received Libero of the Week recognition since Mitchell joined the GNAC prior to the 2023-24 school year.
Hyde opened the season in impressive fashion, totaling 41 kills and 23 digs across two non-conference matches. The outside hitter averaged 5.13 kills per set and added seven service aces as the Mariners went 1-1 on the week. She began the season with a career-high 26 kills and 13 digs in a five-set thriller against SUNY Maritime. Her 26-kill performance ranks fourth all-time in the program's Division III era for a single match. Hyde then added 15 kills and 10 digs in a three-set sweep of Mass. Maritime, finishing the week with a .320 hitting percentage.
Meanwhile, Lent also enjoyed a strong start to her season, recording 42 digs across two matches while adding 14 assists and three service aces—an average of 5.25 digs per set. She opened the year with 28 digs (5.60 per set) and nine assists in the five-set match against SUNY Maritime. Lent then contributed 14 digs, five assists, and two service aces in the sweep of Mass. Maritime.
The Mariners (1-1, 0-0 GNAC) are scheduled to open conference play on Wednesday, September 3, with a road match at Norwich University.
