Women's Volleyball Duo Claim Weekly GNAC Honors
WINTHROP, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College women's volleyball team earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors, as senior Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) was named Libero of the Week and freshman Cimber Jenkins (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) was tabbed Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
It marks the second consecutive week—and seventh time overall—that Lent has received Libero of the Week recognition since Mitchell joined the GNAC prior to the 2023-24 school year. It is also the first Rookie of the Week honor of Jenkins's collegiate career.
Lent anchored Mitchell's defense during a perfect 3-0 week, recording 60 digs (5.00/set) while also adding 23 assists (1.92/set) and seven service aces. Her strongest performance came in a four-set win over Mass. Maritime, where she tallied 21 digs, 10 assists, and an ace. She also posted 24 digs and 11 assists in a five-set victory over Mount Saint Vincent. Across the week, she maintained a strong .920 reception percentage on 87 attempts.
Meanwhile, Jenkins played a key role in Mitchell's success, finishing with 31 kills (2.58/set) on a .418 hitting percentage while also contributing 35 assists (2.92/set), 20 digs, and eight service aces. She set the tone in the GNAC win over Norwich with seven kills, seven assists, and two aces, then followed with back-to-back 12-kill performances against Mount Saint Vincent and Mass. Maritime, hitting over .450 in both matches. The freshman also dished out a season-best 15 assists and added 11 digs in the victory over Mass. Maritime.
The Mariners (4-1, 1-0 GNAC) return to action on Wednesday, September 10, with a non-conference home match against Vermont State Lyndon.
