Mitchell Splits With Lehman, Deltgen Throws No-Hitter

NEW LONDON, Conn. (3-22-09)- The Mitchell Mariners split with the Lightning of Lehman College today in baseball action, and the highlight of the day was a no-hitter thrown by Mitchell's Adam Deltgen (Norwich, Conn.).  Lehman won the first game of the doubleheader, 11-4, while Mitchell took the second game 4-1.

In game one, Lehman scored five runs on four hits in the fifth inning to take a 7-0 lead.  The Mariners fought back in the sixth as they rallied to score four runs on four hits, including a double by John McGarry (Waterford, Conn.) which scored three runs.  But the Lightning would come right back and put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh, as they scored four more runs.

For Lehman, Amadoernesto Guzman (Bronx, N.Y.) went 2-3 with three RBI's, while Andrew Rosario (Bronx, N.Y.) went 2-4 with 2RBI's and a homer.  Emmanuel Vera (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up the win as he scattered six hits and allowed four earned runs.

The Mariners were led by McGarry who went 2-2 with three RBI's and Clayton Boegler (Somerset, Mass.) who went 1-3 and knocked in one RBI.  Andrew Langlais (Ledyard, Conn.) took the loss for Mitchell.

The second game of the doubleheader was a pitcher's duel.  Deltgen went the distance and pitched a no-hitter, and he struck out 10 batters and walked three.  The Mariners took a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning, when Paul Martinez (New London, Conn.) singled home Langlais who had reached on a walk.  Mitchell would score two more runs on wild pitches in the inning.  The loss was credited to Gilbert Garcia (Bronx, N.Y.), as he gave up three hits and three earned runs in six innings of work.

Lehman's record is now (2-5), while Mitchell is 3-7 on the season and they are back in action on Thursday, March 26th when they host Albertus Magnus at 3:00 pm.
