Baseball's Cornwell Named NECC Co-Rookie of the Week
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Freshman pitcher Garrett
Cornwell was named NECC Co-Rookie of the Week for the sport of
baseball, as announced by the New England Collegiate Conference on
Monday.
Cornwell, who shares the honor with Daniel Webster infielder Elliot
Kilgore, improved to 3-0 on the season in a complete-game effort
over Elms last week, winning the series finale 5-2. He allowed two
runs on three hits in 7.0 innings of work, striking out two while
giving up four walks.
Cornwell earns ROW status for the second straight week. He ranks
second on the Mitchell staff in ERA (2.70) and strikeouts (17) and
has logged a team-high 20.0 innings. Opposing teams have batted
.171 against him in his three appearances.
Mitchell (8-5 overall) takes a seven-game winning streak into a
non-conference match-up at Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday,
April 7. First pitch of the nine-inning affair is slated for 4 p.m.
