Chapman Named NECC Pitcher of the Week
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the second straight week and the third
time this season, Mitchell College senior Jeremy
Chapman was named NECC Pitcher of the Week, as announced on
Monday by the New England Collegiate Conference.
Chapman fanned eight batters and went the distance in a 4-3 win
over conference leader Daniel Webster College on Sunday. The
victory improved his overall record to 4-0 on the season. In the
game against the Eagles, Chapman gave up three runs in the first
inning but settled down to retire 16 straight at one point. He gave
up only one hit over the final six innings as the Mariners clawed
back for the win.
Chapman entered the weekend with the lowest ERA in the nation at
the Division III level. While his ERA climbed to 0.79, it remains
the lowest of any starter in the NECC. He has allowed only three
earned runs over 34.0 innings. Chapman has also recorded 46
strikeouts and held opponents to .133 hitting in five
appearances.
Mitchell (10-9 overall, 5-3 NECC) plays at Daniel Webster College
later today in the final game of a three-game series. First pitch
is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
