Sailing Opens 2009 Season at Roger Williams
BRISTOL, R.I. - The Mitchell College sailing team made its 2009
debut this weekend at the Southern Series, an event hosted by Roger
Williams University.
Junior DJ Pothier (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) and sophomore Jessica
Esposito (Woodbridge, Conn.) represented the Mariners at the
event. Not having a full complement of sailors, Mitchell
teamed with a pair of freshmen from Roger Williams, led by local
sailor Matt Paige of Stonington. After the first day of racing the
Mitchell/RWU combination team was in eleventh place out of the 14
competitors.
After the first day of racing Pothier/Esposito, sailing in A
division, was in 14th place. This was the first ever regatta for
the team of Pothier/Esposito, and they continued to improve their
finishes throughout the day.
University of Vermont won the regatta, Brown finished second, with
host Roger Williams a close third.
