Mariners Sail at URI Southern Series Regatta
The Mitchell College sailing team competed at the URI Southern
Series Regatta this weekend.
The Mariners placed ninth out of the nine teams that participated.
Connecticut College won the event.
In the first race, Mitchell posted a fourth place finish by Alex
Hering and Jessica Esposito. The Mariners also had an eighth place
finish by DJ Pothier and Tara Chang. Both Hering and Chang were
sailing in their first ever regatta.
Shifty winds were a source of trouble for Mitchell in the following
races. After the first day the team was in ninth place, with Hering
in seventh in A division and Pothier in ninth in B division. An
illness to one of the team members prevented Mitchell from sailing
in B division on the second day.
Regardless of the finish, the young Mitchell squad sailed well and
the valuable experience.
