Coach's Corner
All,
Each week I will be posting a "Coach's Corner" about
the weekend's regatta. Below my name/signature you will see
this season's fall roster and sailing team schedule. Please
feel free to email me anytime if you would like directions to any
of the below listed regatta venues.
This past weekend (September 11-12), the Mitchell College sailing
team travelled up to Bristol, R.I. and sailed at the Mt. Hope Bay
Invitational at Rogers Williams University. The final results (14th
out of 15 teams) are not entirely indicative of the great
effort and progress the team has made in this short time since we
all first met. As one can see from the roster we are a very young
team and have a lot room to grow.
First off, we had some of the toughest conditions I have seen since
coaching here at Mitchell College. We had no wind, heavy wind, and
medium wind mixed with heavy current and no current all at
different times during the weekend. Needless to say, the
team was mentally and physically exhausted by the end of the
weekend. After the first day, Alex Hering and
first-time racer Lindsay Ware were in tight race, but in 15th
place in A Division. In B Division, at their first collegiate
regatta, Brendan Griffiths and Kim Parker were in 10th place
having ended Saturday's race day with finishes of 10, 8, and 8.
However, illness and fatigue hit the team on Sunday and we
struggled achieving the mid-fleet scores we were capable of. A
division finished 15th out of 15 boats; in B Division,
Brendan and Kim finished 13th out of 15--an outstanding result
for their first regatta.
Overall, being a young team, we represented the College in a fine
manner and now know what we need to work on for future events.

Top Three Teams: University of Vermont, Tufts, Brown
I hope to see you at a regatta soon. We will be at UConn-Avery
Point for the Donaghy Trophy this weekend.
