BOSTON – The Mitchell College softball team took both games of a doubleheader at Wheelock College on Sunday afternoon, winning by final scores of 6-5 and 11-2.

Mitchell improved to 20-10 overall and 12-2 in the NECC. The Mariners will be no worse than a third seed in the upcoming NECC Championship and can still earn one of the top two seeds and a bye for the first round. Wheelock dropped to 1-21 overall and 1-9 in conference play.

Game 1 – Mitchell 6, Wheelock 5

A two-run homer by senior Sara Krolikowski in the top of the seventh inning put Mitchell on top 6-5 and was the difference in the ballgame. Sophomore Stacey Suplicki led off the frame with a single before Krolikowski went deep for her team-leading fourth home run of the season.

Sophomore Brittany Zaccaria also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs to help the Mariners. Classmate Kristina Torres gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits over 7.0 innings. She struck out nine batters and walked three while improving to 9-6 on the season.

Game 2 – Mitchell 11, Wheelock 2

Krolikowski went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the nightcap while freshman Meghan Burke added two hits and knocked in three runs. Suplicki, junior Jen Bordonaro and sophomore Shannen Pelletier also had multi-hit games for the Mariners, who finished with 13 hits in the contest.
