ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Zilka Navarro was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of women's basketball, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Navarro led Mitchell to a 3-0 week in conference play and averaged a team-high 20.7 points per game while playing 40 minutes or more in every contest. The rookie guard led the team with 18 points and had three steals in a 56-53 overtime win at Wheelock College. She then netted a game-high 23 points in a three-point victory over Southern Vermont College and finished the week with 21 points and six assists in an eight-point win at Bay Path College.
Navarro has started and played in all 12 games this season and leads the Mariners in scoring at 13.3 points per game. She has scored in double figures in six games and surpassed the 20-point mark three times, including a 32-point game earlier this season.
Mitchell (4-8 overall, 3-3 NECC) will next host Lesley University on Tuesday, January 17 at 5 p.m.
