Silva Nets Sixth Goal of Season in 2-1 Loss to UMASS-Boston
Mitchell College women's soccer (3-3-0) dropped a close game to the UMass-Boston Beacons Wednesday afternoon, 2-1on the campus of Mitchell College in New London, CT. Mitchell struck first with a goal by Mallory Silva (Fr., Waterford, CT) for her team leading sixth goal of the season 2:21 into the game. Silva went by the Beacon goalie off an assist from teammate Chloe Zanardi (Fr., Deep River, CT). After the first goal, Mitchell controlled play with strong possession the remainder of the first period.
The Beacons netted their first goal of the game in the second period after 65:51 minutes of play with an unassisted goal by Stefanie Marini (So., Waltham, MA). Marini's shot flew over the out-stretched hands of Mitchell's goalie from 25 yards out. Ten minutes later, teammate Erika Marsters (Fr., Mashpee, MA) converted off an assist from Krysten Platte (Fr., Wymouth, MA). Marsters scored off a chip shot outside the 18 yard line over the Pequot defense.
The Becons out shot the Pequots 16-2 on the day. Mitchell's Molly Gill (Fr., Deep River, CT) ended with the game pulling in 10 saves. Goalie Jessica Penta (Fr., Revere, MA) earned one. UMass-Boston leaves New London with a 2-2-0 record. The Beacons will face Plymouth State University at home on Saturday. The Pequots will host the University of Maine - Presque Isle Saturday for a 2:00 PM kick-off.
