ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Rocco Devona was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week for the sport of men's tennis, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Devona led the Mariners to a 2-1 start to the regular season and was undefeated at both the No.1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions. He helped Mitchell to wins against Newbury College (9-0) and Albertus Magnus College (9-0) and picked up two points in a loss against Lesley University (5-4). He didn't lose a set in any of his singles matches and partnered with Tyler Engleberg to win the doubles matches by finals of 8-0, 8-1 and 8-4, respectively.
Devona, who earned player of the week status once as a freshman, is undefeated in his collegiate career. Last season he was a five-time NECC Rookie of the Week selection and was named NECC Rookie of the Year. He was also an all-conference pick in both singles and doubles.
Mitchell (2-1 overall, 1-1 NECC) will next host Post University on Wednesday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m.
