NECC Men's Championship Draw Announced
ATTLEBORO, Mass.—The 2011 season ended with the Lesley University Lynx sharing a piece of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Tennis title with the now three-time champions Mariners of Mitchell College.
Both Lesley and Mitchell finished conference play with a 7-1 record, splitting with each other during the season. Lesley (9-1 overall) won the first meeting by a 5-4 final on April 2, while Mitchell (10-2 overall) came back and took the second meeting 8-1 on April 27.
The Lynx are led by Head Coach Marty Morrissey, while the Mariners' head coach is Rick Carmona.
Coming in third were the Hawks of Becker College with a 4-4 NECC record and 5-8 overall. The Wildcats of Wheelock College(2-6, 2-8) and the Nighthawks of Newbury College (0-8, 0-10) finished fourth and fifth in the conference play.
The 2011 NECC Men's Tennis Championship is determined solely on regular season conference matches.
The 2011 New England Collegiate Conference Men's Tennis Championship Tournament will be an individual flighted tournament that is based upon student-athletes' singles and doubles conference records played with having played at least 50 percent of their matches at a set position. Players are seeded as individual players and seeds are not based on a team's finish.
Championship play will begin this weekend on Saturday, April 30 hosted by Mitchell College on its campus courts. Semifinals doubles action will begin at 10:00 a.m. The semi-finals singles flights will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The championships will conclude on Sunday, May 1 where the final winners will be awarded for all six singles flights and all three doubles flights.
