Jan 19, 2008 MEN EDGE OUT SAINT JOSEPHS NY 75-74 FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON (NEW LONDON, CT)…In a battle that saw 17 lead changes and
no team leading by more than four points, Mitchell College pulled
out their first win of the season Saturday afternoon at the Yarnall
Athletic Center. The Pequots edged out the Bears from Saint
Joseph’s College of New York 75-74. Mitchell ends the week at
1-14, Saint Joseph’s stands at 5-9 overall.
Mitchell went to the locker room with 35-34 lead after sophomore
Eric
Murray (Bridgeport, CT) landed three foul shots with
no time left in the half. Murray continued his offensive assault,
scoring 30 points. This is Murray’s third straight game
scoring at least 30 points. Also scoring in double digits were
junior guard Joshua
Witt (West Redding, CT) with 19 and junior guard Brian
Marciniak (East Hampton, NY) with 10. Marciniak dished
out 10 assists to his teammates. When asked about the long awaited
win Mitchell Head Coach Todd Peretz responded by saying
“I’m happy for the players. I can handle the adversity
a lot better then they can. They played inspired basketball.”
Junior guard Ervin Maddox (Staten Island, NY) led the
Bear’s with 22 points. Freshman forward Jon Matzelle (Queens,
NY) had a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Junior Dane
Bruce (Elmont, NY) chipped in with 13 points and senior Chris

host Medgar Evers College at 7:30 on Monday, January 21.
