WBB Nabs NECC Weekly Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College women's basketball team were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.
Senior forward Amina Wiley was named NECC Player of the Week while sophomore forward Tianna Sweeney was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. Wiley earned the honor for the third time this season (Nov. 8, 15) while Sweeney was recognized for the first time.
Wiley shot 59 percent, recorded a pair of double-doubles and averaged team highs of 18.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game last week. She finished with game highs of 23 points and 14 rebounds against Fisher College while eclipsing the school's career rebounding mark. She also had 14 points and 13 boards against Coast Guard Academy.
Sweeney averaged 8.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per games last week. She finished with eight points, 10 boards and three blocks in 26 minutes off the bench against Coast Guard. She then got the starting nod at Fisher and contributed eight points and seven boards in 22 minutes of action.
Wiley has played in 14 games this season and leads the Mariners in scoring (17.4 ppg) and rebounding (11.1 rpg). Sweeney has played in 15 games with three starts and is averaging 3.4 points and 3.7 boards per contest.
Mitchell (7-8 overall) will next play at Lesley University on Wednesday, January 26 at 7 p.m.
