NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team fell 101-28 to the Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday night in a non-league matchup at Roland Hall.
Freshman guard Jordyn Streitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) paced the Mariners with nine points and three rebounds. Junior Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) chipped in five points, while freshman Jade Hypolite (Houston, TX) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and recorded three steals.
The Bears wasted little time against their crosstown foe, outscoring the Mariners 33-10 in the first quarter. Coast Guard led 56-19 at halftime and held Mitchell to just nine points in the second half, as 12 different Bears registered at least one point. Leading the way in scoring for Coast Guard was Glory Blethen and Dorothy Stotts, who had 16 points each.
Mitchell was unable to overcome the strong Bear defense and were held to just 14.5% shooting on the game.
The Mariners (2-3, 0-0 GNAC) will close out the semester with a non-conference game at Nichols College on Thursday, December 12, at Nichols College. Winners of seven straight, the Bears (8-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) return to the court at Albertus Magnus College on Thursday, December 12.
