Women’s Basketball Drops Senior Day Season Finale to Lasell
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon at the Yarnall Athletic Center, falling to Lasell University, 76–65, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Prior to the game, the Mariners honored their two senior student-athletes, Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) and Nanda Sanchez (Houston, Texas).
Lasell controlled the game from the opening quarter, building a 22–12 lead after one and extending the margin to 45–26 at halftime behind efficient shooting and a strong presence on the glass. The Lasers shot 44.8 percent from the field and held a commanding 57–27 rebounding advantage in the contest.
Mitchell found its rhythm late, producing its most productive stretch in the fourth quarter by scoring 26 points on 55 percent shooting from the field and connecting on three three-pointers. The Mariners also generated opportunities in transition, holding a 14–10 edge in fast-break points.
Beddoe led the Mariners with 26 points, knocking down three three-pointers and going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Jade Hypolite (Houston, Texas) added 17 points, four rebounds, and four steals, while junior Inonda Peterson (Houston, Texas) contributed 13 points and seven rebounds.
Sanchez paced Mitchell on the boards with eight rebounds, and sophomore Jordyn Streitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) added three rebounds and four steals.
Lasell was led by Blaize Mack with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Laura Johnson recorded a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 24 rebounds. Abigail Duclos also added 14 points in the win.
The Mariners finish the season with an overall record of 2–19, including an 0–12 mark in conference play.
