BOSTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team dropped a 95–59 decision to Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Friday evening at the Jean Yawkey Center.
Emmanuel seized control from the opening tip, using a 24–0 start to build a 33–10 lead after the first quarter and extending the margin to 59–16 at halftime. The Saints shot 52.1 percent from the field and forced 23 Mitchell turnovers, converting them into 38 points.
Mitchell showed improvement after halftime, outscoring Emmanuel 43–36 over the final two quarters, including a 24-point fourth quarter. The Mariners shot 32.2 percent from the field and connected on nine three-pointers while converting 12-of-13 free throws.
Sophomore Jade Hypolite (Houston, TX) led Mitchell with 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while fellow sophomore Jordyn Streitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) added 18 points and senior Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) chipped in nine points.
Megan Reilly paced Emmanuel with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Tyra Blye added 11 points and Geanna Bryant contributed 10 points for the Saints, who held a 50–28 rebounding advantage and outscored Mitchell 46–20 in the paint.
The Mariners (2-18, 0-11 GNAC) return home to close out their season against Lasell University on Saturday, February 21, at 3:00 p.m.
