Women’s Basketball Falls in GNAC Clash with Saints
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team was defeated by a final of 77-52 against Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Mitchell freshman N'Tai Teague (Houston, TX) led all scorers with 14 points, while junior Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) added 13 points and five rebounds in the loss. Freshman Jade Hypolite (Houston, TX) also registered double-figures scoring, finishing with 10 points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
The Saints scored the first four points of the game and were off and running from there, outscoring the Mariners 32-14 in the opening quarter. The second frame was much more even, as the two squads tied 13-13, but a 45-27 halftime deficit was too much for the shorthanded Mariners to overcome.
13 different players finished in the scoring column for Emmanuel, who used their considerable size advantage to win the rebounding battle convincingly, 49-20. Kaitlyn Bartash, Paris Atuahene, and Lia Krumian netted nine points apiece for the Saints in the win. Additionally, the Saints bench outscored Mitchell's 41-2.
Shooting woes continued to plague the Mariners, as the team shot just 27.4% from the floor and 25% from beyond the arc.
The Mariners (2-10, 0-6 GNAC) will hope for a bounce back performance when they play at the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday, January 29. The Saints (8-9, 3-3 GNAC) go for their fourth consecutive victory when they return to the court on Wednesday, January 29, at Regis College.
