Wiley Adds D3hoops.com All-Region Honors
[D3hoops.com release]
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College women's basketball player Amina Wiley was named to the D3hoops.com All-Region second team for Region 2, as announced by the web site on Tuesday.
The senior forward was one of 11 players honored by the popular site, and the only one from the New England Collegiate Conference. She is the first player in school history to earn the distinction.
Players were nominated by sports information directors at various schools, and a total of 746 players were nominated nationwide. Regional voting was then conducted among a select group of SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
The award is the latest for Wiley, who has put together an impressive haul of accolades this season. She most recently received all-region honors from the New England Women's Basketball Association, earning a spot on the third team. Following the regular season she was named NECC Player of the Year and earned all-conference first team status for the third time in her career. She was also tabbed MVP of the 2022 NECC Championship after leading the Mariners to their first-ever title.
Wiley led the NECC in scoring (19.5), rebounding (10.4) and field goal percentage (.561) in her final season with the Mariners. Her 13 double-doubles also led the league, and she ranked fourth among all active Division III players with 48 for her career. She was a six-time NECC Player of the Week selection during a regular season that saw her eclipse the 1,000-point barrier, as well as become the school's all-time leading rebounder.
Mitchell finished the season with an overall record of 12-14. The Mariners also made their NCAA Championship debut, falling to top-ranked Christopher Newport University in the opening round of the tournament.
This year marked the 21st season that D3hoops.com has named All-Region teams. Players who were named to All-Region teams are eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America teams, which will be released on March 19.
