Santos Earns GNAC Player of the Week Honors
WINTHROP, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Yasmine Santos (Pawtucket, R.I.) earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. It marks the second time that Santos has been named the conference player of the week, having previously earning the honor the week of 11/27.
It was another monster week for the senior forward, who averaged 37.5 points and 14 rebounds across two games for the Mariners. Santos added three assists and two steals despite Mitchell posting an 0-2 record, while shooting 55.6% from the floor and 80.6% from the free throw line.
Santos began the week with a 36 point, 15 rebounds performance against Albertus Magnus, while dishing out five assists and shooting 59.1% overall and 90.9% from the stripe in game with the Falcons. She then turned it up a notch in conference showdown at Regis, finishing with a career-high 39 points to go along with 13 rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one block. Santos shot at a 52.2% clip against the Pride and was 15-20 from the free-throw line.
On the season, Santos now leads the conference in scoring and rebounding, averaging 24.4 points and 12.8 rebounds per game. Her play has been elevated during conference play, as Santos is averaging 32.2 points and 12 rebounds across four games against GNAC opponents.
The senior will look to lead the Mariners (2-10, 0-4 GNAC) to their first conference win on Tuesday, January 16th, when Mitchell plays host to Elms College at 5:00 pm.
