NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to visiting Roger Williams University on Sunday afternoon, falling 77–39 inside the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Roger Williams opened the game on a 22–6 run and carried a 44–17 advantage into halftime. Mitchell steadied itself after the break, scoring 12 points in the third quarter, but the Hawks' depth continued to create separation.
Sophomore Jade Hypolite (Houston, Texas) led the Mariners with 12 points, including a 6-for-8 mark at the free-throw line. Junior Inonda Peterson (Houston, Texas) added 10 points and seven rebounds, knocking down a pair of threes to pace the backcourt. Senior Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) finished with 8 points on 2-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc, while the freshman duo of Delaney Fifield (Whatley, Mass.) and Ariahna Headen (Rogers, Conn.) each collected six rebounds to anchor the frontcourt.
Roger Williams was led by Sophia Coppola, who scored a team-high 11 points, and Maia Riccio, who added 10 off the bench.
After four consecutive home games to start the season, the Mariners (1–3, 0–0 GNAC) will return to action at the Westfield Gas and Electric Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Westfield State University on Friday, November 21.
