Women’s Lacrosse Can’t Slow Rivier
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team dropped a 21–2 decision to Rivier University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Rivier controlled the game from the opening draw, building a 7–1 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 11–2 by halftime.
Junior Chloe Jennings (New London, Conn.) accounted for both Mitchell goals, scoring once in the first quarter and adding a second on a free-position attempt in the second.
Rivier continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring the Mariners 10–0 over the final two quarters to secure the conference victory.
Jennings led Mitchell with two goals, six draw controls, and six shots on goal. Senior Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) contributed a team-high five ground balls and five draw controls.
In goal, senior Arrianna Stark (Schenectady, N.Y.) made one save in 45 minutes of action, while freshman Jay Minner (Milford, Conn.) recorded two saves in relief.
Rivier held advantages in shots (29–12) and ground balls (25–14), while narrowly edging Mitchell in draw controls (13–12).
Sofia Cebrero and Chloe Waldron each recorded hat tricks in the win for the Raiders, while Arrianna Imbriano turned away six shots in 60 minutes between the pipes.
The Mariners (0–5, 0–4 GNAC) will return to action on Saturday, March 28, with a GNAC matchup against Emmanuel College at 11:00 a.m.
