Saints Shoot Past Women’s Lacrosse
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team dropped a 19–1 decision to Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday morning at Alumni Field.
Emmanuel controlled the game from the opening draw, scoring six times in the first quarter and adding five more in the second to take an 11–0 lead into halftime.
The Mariners broke through in the third quarter when senior Halie Jennings (New London, Conn.) found the back of the net for Mitchell's lone goal of the contest.
Mitchell was limited to seven shots in the game, with junior Chloe Jennings (New London, Conn.) leading the way with five attempts, including two on goal. Senior Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) paced the Mariners with eight draw controls, while the team finished with nine ground balls and nine draw controls overall.
In goal, freshman Jay Minner (Milford, Conn.) made three saves in the first half in her first collegiate start, while senior Arrianna Stark (Schenectady, N.Y.) recorded five saves over the final 30 minutes.
Emmanuel finished with advantages in shots (31–7), ground balls (21–9), and draw controls (13–9).
Madeline Wright led the Saints with four goals and two assists, while Delaney Johnston added three goals and an assist. Avery Robillard contributed two goals and two assists, and Tori Flaherty chipped in with two goals and one assist. In goal, Keira Walsh earned the win with two saves over 45 minutes.
The Mariners (0-5, 0-4 GNAC) will look to bounce back on Tuesday, March 31, when they travel to face Elms College in a GNAC showdown.
