PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) scored two goals on Saturday afternoon, but the Mitchell College men's lacrosse team was defeated 19-2 by Johnson & Wales University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Matthew Bancroft scored four goals for the Wildcats, while Jack Davis dished out eight assists and 11 different student-athletes recorded points in the win. JWU outshot the Mariners 45-18 and forced 24 turnovers. The Wildcats outscored the visitors 8-0 in the second to turn a 4-1 lead into a 12-1 halftime advantage.
Senior Keeano Gonzalez (New London, Conn.) assisted on one goal while also scooping up a game-high 11 ground balls.
The Mariners (0-4, 0-4 GNAC) return home to face the University of Saint Joseph on Tuesday, April 15, at 4:00 pm. The Wildcats (6-6, 3-3 GNAC) host Regis College in their next game on Wednesday, April 16.
