Men’s Lacrosse Defeated by Elms in GNAC Clash
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 15–5 decision to Elms College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Mariners struck early with a pair of first-quarter goals from sophomore Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.), but Elms responded with three goals in the opening frame and took control in the second quarter, outscoring Mitchell 5–0 to build an 8–2 lead at halftime.
Elms continued to pull away in the second half, extending its advantage behind a strong offensive performance from Devano Clarke, who finished with eight goals. Colter McComas added five goals and three assists for the Blazers.
Mitchell received second-half goals from freshman Dylan Johns (New Britain, Conn.), freshman Graham Brown (Southlake, Texas), and freshman Connor Comeau (Sudbury, Mass.), but could not close the gap.
Mahoney led the Mariners with two goals, while freshman Evan Waite (Suffield, Conn.) finished with a team-high five shots on goal. Defensively, junior Gregory Powell (Middletown, Conn.) paced the team with a game-high 11 ground balls.
In goal, junior Cameron Haefs (Chicago, Ill.) made seven saves while facing 22 shots on goal.
Mitchell held an advantage in ground balls (41–31) and shots (49–43), while Elms edged the Mariners in faceoffs (12–11).
Elms goalkeeper Caleb Smith earned the win, recording 15 saves in 60 minutes of action.
The Mariners (0–3, 0–3 GNAC) return to action on Saturday, March 28, at home against Norwich University at 2:00 p.m.
