Men’s Lacrosse Drops GNAC Tilt to Norwich
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 25–2 decision to Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Norwich controlled the game from the outset, scoring nine times in the opening quarter and adding five more in the second to take a 14–0 lead into halftime.
The Mariners broke through in the third quarter when sophomore Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal. Mitchell added another in the fourth, as freshman Dylan Johns (New Britain, Conn.) finished off a feed from fellow freshman Evan Waite (Suffield, Conn.) for his first collegiate goal.
Mahoney also recorded a team-high seven shots, including four on goal. Johns added a goal on three shots, and junior Gregory Powell (Middletown, Conn.) contributed four ground balls defensively.
In goal, sophomore Cameron Haefs (Chicago, Ill.) made 19 saves while facing 44 shots on goal.
Norwich held advantages in shots (58–12), ground balls (54–13), and faceoffs (27–4), helping control possession throughout the contest.
Jack Ryan led the Cadets with four goals and one assist, while Wes Emerson added three goals. Mason Dils got the start in goal for Norwich and earned the win, making one save in just over a quarter of work.
The Mariners (0-4, 0-4 GNAC) will wrap up their three-game homestand on Monday, March 30, when they host Rivier University in GNAC action beginning at 3:00 p.m.
