NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Mitchell College men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw at Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at Kelsey Field.
Mitchell struck first in the 17th minute, with freshman Jo'metrius Davis (Columbus, GA) scoring his third goal of the season, an unassisted effort that gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead. However, as the first half drew to a close, Colby-Sawyer equalized with a penalty kick in the 41st minute from Matheus Saragosa.
In the second half, Colby-Sawyer capitalized, taking a 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute with a goal from Damian Moreno, assisted by Saragosa. Mitchell responded in the 70th minute when sophomore Jose Pacheco (New London, Conn.) scored the equalizer, his first goal of the fall, with an unassisted strike to make it 2-2.
The final 20 minutes of the match saw both teams press for a winner, but neither could break the deadlock. Colby-Sawyer registered 13 shots compared to Mitchell's 6, but the Mariners' defense held firm.
The Mariners (1-5-1, 0-0-1 GNAC) will look to build on this performance when they return home for their next match against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Tuesday, September 23.
