FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team closed out its 2025 campaign on Wednesday afternoon with a 5-0 setback on the road against Dean College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Longley Field. Despite generating plenty of offensive chances, the Mariners were unable to break through against a strong Bulldogs defense and goalkeeper.
Mitchell put together one of its most active attacking performances of the season, outshooting Dean 23-20 and forcing 12 saves from Bulldog keeper Jake Godwin, who also tallied a rare goal in the second half. Sophomore forward Sean Khan (Wethersfield, Conn.) led the Mariners with six shots, including four on target, while fellow sophomores Erik Portillo (Norwich, Conn.) and Sebastian Duffy (Groton, Conn.), along with freshman Oscar Mendoza-Soto (Willimantic, Conn.), each added multiple attempts to pressure the Dean back line.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring late in the first half with goals in the 41st and 43rd minutes from Nate Beturne and Will Chase, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. Mitchell continued to press forward after the break, creating several quality chances but couldn't find the back of the net. Dean capitalized late, adding three goals in the final five minutes to seal the result.
In goal, the freshman duo of Gabriel Tiene (Fairfield, Conn.) and Dylan Johns (New Britain, Conn.) split time for the Mariners, combining for five saves across 90 minutes. Tiene made four stops in the opening frame, while Johns added one save in the second.
The Mariners conclude their season with an overall record of 3-14-1, including a 2-9-1 mark in GNAC play.
