WESTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team came up short in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Wednesday afternoon, falling 6-1 to Regis College in a road matchup at Regis Stadium.
Regis opened the scoring early and maintained steady offensive pressure throughout the match, taking a 3-0 lead into halftime. The hosts added three more goals in the second half before Mitchell broke through late in the game.
Sophomore forward Sean Khan (Wethersfield, Conn.) tallied the lone goal for the Mariners in the 78th minute, finishing off a pass from fellow sophomore Jose Pacheco (New London, Conn.) to record his first goal of the season. Mitchell finished the match with six total shots, two of which were on target—one each from Khan and sophomore Erik Portillo (Norwich, Conn.).
In goal, junior Jesse Jenkins (Windsor, Conn.) turned away nine shots on the day, facing 15 shots on target from a Regis offense that controlled much of the game. Regis outshot Mitchell 32-6 and held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
For the Pride, Reynaldo Bautista opened the scoring in the 7th minute, followed by first-half goals from Haroun Mafhoum and Michael Champagne. Champagne added his second goal early in the second half before Joey Davila and Nolan McMahon capped off the scoring.
